KnickKnack Boxes
Knick is a duplication of knack and knack is defined like the following:

1.        A clever, expedient way of doing something. 2. A specific talent for something, especially one
difficult to explain or teach. See synonyms at art1. 3. Archaic a. A cleverly designed device. b. A
knickknack. ETYMOLOGY:Middle English knakke, from Middle Dutch cnacken, to strike, crack,
probably of imitative origin.

The Legend of the KnickKnack Box

Knickknack is the name used to describe this funny little box because the word knickknack has 4 K’s
in it. How many words in the English Language can claim that distinction? The 4 sides of a knickknack
box are joined with symmetrical miter joints, one at each corner. 4 sides + 4 corners + 4 sets of miter
joints + 4 Ks in the name.  You see… Not to worry. It all adds up to 4.

The box is meant to be given over and over. Receive it as a gift and pass it on when you feel the time is
right. Give the box as a present or put a little something nice in it (a little knickknack, or even a little
greenback) and gift it to someone else. Weddings are an especially nice time to give or receive a
knickknack box.

With each new owner, the history of the box will continue to grow, because before you give away the
knickknack box, you must sign and denote the day on the bottom of the knickknack box, declaring
your ownership of the knickknack box as part of its little knickknack history.

Your knickknack box will probably last forever. Unfortunately, you won’t. Don’t hang on to the
knickknack box forever, but pass it on, before you pass on. After all, we are all only passing through
this life, but will be remembered in some small way as having crossed paths with the little unassuming
knickknack box.
